It’s time to organize your closet. It doesn’t matter how large or small--it just needs to be organized so you can find your clothes easily.
First-- NO metal hangers! Yes, I know, call me Mommy Dearest. But those metal hangers lose their shape and can even snag your clothes. Plastic hangers are durable and cheap. Wal-Mart sells them for under $2 a dozen. If you have metal hangers that are in great shape, your local dry cleaners will probably take them off your hands. You can purchase a few dozen plastic hangers a week until you accomplish your goal of NO metal hangers.
Now onto organizing your clothes.
I’ve found the best way to arrange your closet is by article of clothing, i.e. tops, skirts, jackets, pants, etc., then by color. Why don’t I sort by season? Because then you’d have too many subdivisions--summer tops, spring tops, winter slacks, fall skirts. I’ve found that color and type is the most efficient way. Once you have sorted all your tops, sweaters, blouses, etc., then divide them by colors. Blacks, whites, off-whites, beiges, blues, reds. After the articles of clothing are sorted, I then proceed to sort by season i.e. tank tops, short sleeve shirts or t-shirts, blouses, and so on. I do this with all colors. I continue with skirts, slacks, blazers, jackets, dresses, and suits.
Once you're done, it’s practically effortless to find something to wear. If I want to wear a pair of jeans, I grab them off my shelf (I don’t hang my jeans) next I decide which shoes and matching belt, then I choose what color top. Once I settle on a color, I go to that area in my closet and depending on the season I know what TYPE of top to grab from THAT color section. See--easy as 1 2 3.
